Robj

Robj was active in Paris in the late 1920s and early 1930s. He actively encouraged Art Deco and Cubist designers and artists, and provided a showcase for their works. Robj sponsored an annual competition between 1927 and 1931 as a means of finding new designers.

Robj was not a manufacturer - his pieces were made under commission by various suppliers - but he can be considered important in the promotion of Art Deco in ceramics in the period that it came of age.

For those worried about the pronunciation of 'Robj', the 'j' is not silent, nor is it pronounced like a 'y' - the word is said much as it would be in English with the appropriate French sound to the 'R'.
