Mystery ginger jar

If you go into the open air and look at this pot at a certain angle you can see a clearly defined design showing trees, apples, birds and a paisley pattern. We think that the design might have had a metallic content and been burnt off because it was fired at too high a temperature.

Could this be a de Morgan reject? There is a rectangle on the base that only shows in the same way as the pattern.
