Large Copenhagen vase (mark)

Large Copenhagen vase (mark)

Large Copenhagen vase (mark) 1969?.

We have been told that Copenhagen pieces can be dated by the marks above or below the letters in 'Royal Copenhagen Denmark'. The marks started in 1935 with a mark above the 'R' of 'Royal', then above each letter until the 'K' of 'Denmark' (1956). The sequence started again with the marks below the letters. If this is correct, then this vase dates from 1969.

Royal Copenhagen Factory

The Royal Copenhagen Factory was founded around 1771 in Copenhagen, Denmark, by F H Müller. It is known for its high quality porcelain and for the three wavy lines which have formed part of the company's many marks since 1775.

In the 1880s when production at the Royal Copenhagen factory was dropping to a dangerously low level they were taken over by Aluminia (founded 1863), successful makers of earthenware, and since that time the two ranges, earthenware and porcelain, have been running in tandem.
