The mark to the right of the 'RF' is for Castle Hill Cottages in Brenchley, Kent, where Robert and Sheila lived from 1965 to 1971.Fournier, Robert and Sheila
Robert Fournier (born 1915) set up Ducketts Wood Pottery in Hertforshire in 1946. In 1961 he married Sheila, who was trained as a teacher, and they moved to Greenwich in London. Robert taught Sheila to pot and they continued potting together in Greenwich, Kent and Wiltshire until 1987.
They have variously worked in thrown and hand-built earthenware, stoneware and porcelain, making tableware and decorative items. Sheila's work has been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and Robert is well known as the co-writer of the essential book British Studio Potters' Marks.
Sheila Fournier died in late 2000.
